Felipe had been experimenting with vlogging for a week before he invited me to join him in a family vlog. He said, “We’ll call it The Postmodern Family”! I said, “what’s Postmodern”?

I was really skeptical, thinking it was a stupid idea that wouldn’t really work. I felt like there were already a lot of Youtube channels out there that were about marriage, and I didn’t think we had anything original to add.

But I thought maybe I could make this work. So I offered up some ideas, and Felipe shot them down immediately. He had a plan for the vlog and nothing was gonna deter him from that plan!

Felipe listed all the distinctives about us: I’m Chinese American and he’s Latin American–one matriarchal type culture with a patriarchal culture–but both of us are second generation Americans; and we are both firstborn children so we tend to assert dominance.

We’ve now lived in England for two years, have a three-year-old daughter, and another one on the way. I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant, so the vlog will probably be a lot about second baby and how to introduce it to the family. I’m really excited about sharing with you guys what our lives are like but honestly, doing this Youtube channel thing, vlogging together, is going to be pushing our marriage to a new place!
